ASATA - Association of South African Travel Agents, the official association to represent travel agents and tour operators in South Africa.

ASATA - Association of South African Travel Agents was formed on 4 September 1956. Its founders created a representative forum in the industry to promote professional service with security for both members and their clients.

ASATA's emphasis as the leading association of South African travel agents, is on free trade without violating rules and regulations. Accordingly ASATA have entrenched a “Constitution and Code of Conduct” that self-regulate our industry and provide the consumer with protection and peace of mind.

ASATA is administered by a full-time secretariat with a chief executive and approximately sixteen staff members. The Association of South African travel agents’ day-to-day functions are monitored by ASATA’s management committee, and its continued role and direction are guided by a board of directors.

ASATA has a membership base of approximately 620, of which the majority represents South African retail travel agents, wholesale tour operators and incoming tour operators. ASATA also have a very supportive and strong associated travel partners section.

ASATA is the only South African affiliated member of UFTAA, the Universal Federation of Travel Agents' Associations, which has its headquarters in Geneva.

ASATA, the association of South African travel agents closely associates itself with SACOB, TBCSA, the Fair Practices Committee, the Consumer Council and the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism. Support and recognize the roles of South African Tourism, SATSA and FEDHASA and working in close association with these bodies.

By dealing with an ASATA member you are assured of professional service. Our South African travel agents and tour operators put their credibility on the line by belonging to an organization that prescribes a strict Code of Conduct.

Should you have any complaints, ASATA will investigate on your behalf and will recommend a course of action. The association of South African travel agents’ mandate allows us to handle complaints pertaining to ASATA members only, so it's worth your while to use an affiliated South African travel agent or tour operator!
